The City of Davenport has adjusted its September meeting schedule: the first budget public hearing and regular Commission meeting land on Thursday, September 10, and the Planning Commission plus the second budget public hearing and regular meeting move to Thursday, September 24. Road work: daytime lane closures on US 17/92 through late August

Widening work on US 17/92 between Palmetto Street and Market Street in Davenport means northbound and southbound daytime lane closures, 9 AM to 4 PM, through late August, per the city's traffic update. A new Publix is now open on US-27 — The Shoppes at Citrus Creek

Charles Cove has a new go-to grocery run: Publix opened its store at The Shoppes at Citrus Creek — 42660 US Hwy 27, Davenport, FL 33837 — on June 25, 2026, right on US-27 near the neighborhood and a few minutes from I-4. The new center also brings Publix Liquors, Tropical Smoothie Cafe, Great Clips, a nail salon, and a Fifth Third Bank. Hours and store services are on the official Publix store page; the opening was announced by Publix corporate.

A college campus is rising on US-27

Polk State College's new Haines City–Davenport campus is taking shape on US-27 just south of the neighborhood — a roughly $51 million, 75,000-square-foot campus with health-sciences training (including a simulation hospital), hospitality, logistics, and teacher-education programs. It's slated to open in Fall 2026, putting public higher education minutes from Charles Cove. Verify program and opening details at polk.edu.

Watering restrictions continue — plan on them through the summer

The City of Davenport has watering restrictions in effect — check the current watering days and hours for your address before setting the irrigation timer. Countywide, Polk County announced on July 2 that its utilities customers remain on one-day-per-week irrigation with modified watering hours through October 1 (polkfl.gov).
